  • Traded in the X5M, someone might get a good deal?!?

    I bought my wife a 2014 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged in January and we kept the X5M as my DD. I drove it for 3 months and it wasn't 'me.' It has the CPO warranty till 8-2015. It is at Ziegler Jeep in Downers Grove. They gave me $44k for it.

    Wait so you like the Ranger Rover more than the X5 M?
    In what aspects ? Interior Quality ?

    Wow for $48K for you get a lot of SUV.
    Did anything needs to be replaced while you owned it?

        Keep in mind this was my wife's DD. The X5M was her third X5. She had a 2007 3.0, a 2009 4.8, and then the X5M. Her previous X5s were awesome daily drivers and pushed through winter without an issue. This winter the X5M almost left her stranded due to traction issues (I put all seasons but should have put snows). For her, the X5M didn't feel any different than her previous X5s (quality, feel, appearance) to justify the $100k MSRP new. It was in the shop twice for injector issues but that was all.

        To get the power out of the X5M was tricky. On paper it looks good with 555hp and 500 ft/lbs of torque. It took me months to get M mode to where I could maximize the power. Despite the M setting, you still had to hit the throttle at the right rpm to avoid turbo lag.

        The tech on the X5M was outdated. This was BMW's 2007 technology. For a $100k vehicle you would expect it to have all the latest tech. They did put some of the newer tech options in late 2011.


        We drove the new 2014 X5 5.0 M sport and it was... nice. Tech was better but it looks so bloated compared to the old model. A fully loaded M Sport had a MSRP of $91k.

        Land Rover of Naperville got a 2014 Range Rover sport V8 supercharged with the dynamic package at the end of January. They had my name on the list of people who are interested. My wife and I went in after work and walked away with it 2 hours later. MSRP was $92k and it had tons of tech, felt more powerful, and felt more luxurious than the X5M and the X5 5.0 M sport.

        Even though the X5M is faster on paper.. the RR feels faster behind the wheel. The sound it makes is ridiculous on WOT. In dynamic mode it handles almost as well as the X5M. Dynamic mode turns all the gauge lights red and literally it turns into this menacing monster that is ready to eat up the road. The fully adjustable suspension is amazing. It never faltered in the snow. My wife loves the fact the RR does not have I-drive. The touch screen and voice activation are so much easier to use.

        The X5M was a good vehicle but not a great fit for my wife and I. I hope the next generation X5M fits the $100k price tag better. I feel you get more for your money with the Cayenne Turbo or Range Rover Sport V8 supercharged.

          Thanks for the write-up.
          People have told me the same thing about a 911 turbo vs. a regular 911.
          That they couldn't justify paying so much more for the same quality, feel, appearance.

              Fast forward almost 3 months and now it is even lower. I can't believe they haven't sold it.

                Can't imagine what you got for the trade-in

                    Its a hard sale. Warranty is over and that means x5 times the amount of repairs on this M.

                      If anyone is interested in it, call BMW and see if the CPO warranty is active. It was good till 8-2015 or 100k miles. I gave the dealership all the CPO paperwork.
