Thanks, I'm updating as I go, just added a cross-reference table to post 3 for code variations. I'll probably end up making the extra info a downloadable pdf when it's complete not to clutter the thread.

Hey Nikolai, I just bought a 2001 m3, delivered today. I reset the faults abs took it for a short ride. I got 0A, 0F and 35. Obviously a is the exhaust sensor. Which sensor is f? Would 35 most likely be the fan or a control module? Is the ls1 still running well for you?

Yes, cam position sensor and the fan control module.
The fan control module is on the fan, you can't get it separately.
The old ones had exposed contacts that would corrode. The new ones are covered in epoxy and don't corrode.
